Totana: Lying just off the A-7 motorway to the south-west of the city of Murcia, the historic town of Totana has a long tradition for the making of pottery and ceramics stretching back to the times of the Arab occupation of the Iberian Peninsular.
Having a population of about 28,000 and a municipal district covering some 287km2, Totana is a small town situated amongst picturesque countryside.
Located at the centre of Sierra country, Totana is a great destination for those interested in walking, climing, hiking and mountain cycling, the nearby Sierra de Espuña having some spectacular countryside.
There are over twenty pottery factories working in the town, and between them they produce a wide variety of bowls, pots and ceramics. Much of the pottery is produced in the old fashioned way, often using traditional kilns from the Moorish times. Other significant industries for Totana are pig-farming, agriculture and poultry farming.
Totana has a mild Mediterranean climate though temperatures in the mountainous areas can fall below freezing duing the winter.
Totana can be easily accessed from the A-7 (E-15) motorway and is handily placed to visit the resorts of the southern Costa Calida.
